ACCESS STATEMENT FOR THE COUNTY ARMS, TRURO

 

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.

 

Introduction

Our aim is to provide you with the highest standards of customer service during your stay, delivered with warmth and friendliness. We want you to have the best possible experience whilst you are staying with us and we will do all we can to cater to your needs.

Designed and constructed by local firms to exacting environmental standards, all 33 bedrooms provide the amenities that you would expect; modern en-suites, convenient work space, flat-screen televisions, refreshments tray and high quality Vi-sprung mattresses that promise a good nights’ sleep. Two of the bedrooms have been specifically designed for those with disabilities. Inter-connecting rooms, sofa-beds and cots make provision for family visits. Superior bedrooms at the rear of the property make the most of stunning scenery with Juliette balconies overlooking the wooded valley. Free WIFI is available throughout the building and quiet comfortable seating areas provide an ideal spot to work or meet with colleagues.

The nearest railway station is Truro, which is 0.5 miles away (a 10-15 minute walk). Taxis are available at the station. If you require an accessible taxi this can be booked in advance, see Contact Information for details.

The nearest bus stop is 50m from the pub. There is a shelter with seating. Most buses can accommodate wheelchairs or buggies. Buses run to/from the bus station and the railway station at regular intervals ask the Receptionist for more details or use www.cornwallpublictransport.info for more information..

The main road outside the pub where the main entrance is situated has a wide pavement that is well paved and lit.

The County Arms is ideally located within a 15 - 20 minute walk of the town centre, train station, Royal Cornwall and Duchy hospitals, County Hall and Truro College. Conveniently situated on the A390, it is the perfect base for visiting the Roseland, St Austell and Falmouth and is only a 10 minute drive from the A30 with easy access to West and North Cornwall and Newquay Airport.

Truro itself is a charming city with cobbled streets and a Cathedral at its heart. The main shopping centre includes large high street stores as well as narrow lanes of quirky local shops and cafes. The town is lively in the evenings with a wide array of pubs, bars, restaurants and nightclubs. The Hall for Cornwall is the county’s premier theatre; there is also a cinema and ten-pin bowling alley.

Lemon Quay has a busy calendar of seasonal events including Food and Drink and Arts and Craft Markets.

Victoria Gardens and the riverside walks offer sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.

 

Car Parking and Arrival

There is free parking on site for customers only. The car park is situated at the side of the pub and has approx 50 parking spaces and is 3m from the side entrance. 2 clearly marked Blue Badge parking space is available and is nearest to the side entrance.

The car park surface leading to the side entrance is smooth tarmac with no curbs.

The car park is well lit at night.

There is a drop off point / parking bay at the side entrance of the pub.

The main entrance and side entrance doors are automatic with push button operation; both are 990mm/35.5ins wide and open outwards.

 

Bar & Bar Area and Dining Area/Restaurant

The bar and restaurant are situated on the ground floor. Entry to the restaurant and the bar is level throughout.

There is no lowered section of the bar. Drinks can also be served at the table on request.

Both the bar and the restaurant have a mixture of upright chairs with and without arms and tables are well spaced apart, with a clear height from the floor of 650mm.

Lighting is natural daylight supplemented with overhead and wall lighting.

There is a TV in the bar area. Subtitles are shown on request.

There is background music in the restaurant / bar areas.

The flooring is a mixture of tile and short pile carpet in the bar and restaurant areas.

We do our best to cater for any dietary requirements; please contact us in advance with any specific requests. Where possible all our food produce is locally sourced.

In the bar area, food is ordered at the bar and brought to tables. The restaurant is table service. Breakfast is a self-service buffet; however, staff can assist on request.

Large print menus are available. All staff can assist by running through menus with you.

Crockery is colour contrasted with the table where possible.

There is a pool table and darts board in an area to the side of the bar.

 

Customer Toilets

Customer toilets can be found on the ground floor to the front of the pub near the main entrance. Access is level from the main and side entrances, reception, bar and restaurant areas. There is level access from these areas to the unisex accessible toilet, described below:

Entrance door 900mm wide and level entry into the toilet.

A large transfer space to the right of the toilet, when facing the toilet.

Toilet height is 460mm.

Vertical rails right side of the toilet.

Horizontal rail on the left side of the toilet.

A Sirens sound when the fire alarm sounds.

An emergency alarm pull cord.

Well lit with LED overhead lighting and there is a low level light switch.

Non-slip laminate flooring.

Lever taps on the sink.

Good colour contrast between critical surfaces; toilets & washbasins are white.

 

Beer Garden/Outdoor Area/Smoking area

The Outdoor / Smoking Area is open all year round.

The Outdoor / Smoking Area is situated to the rear of the pub. Access to these areas is available at the rear of the pub where there are no steps.

The entrance/exit door leading to the outdoor areas is glass with markings and lever handle. It is 680mm wide and the second door can be opened makina width of 1360mm wide in total.

The Outdoor / Smoking Area is flat.

The Outdoor / Smoking Area is wooden decking. A walkway runs through Outdoor / Smoking Area giving easy access to tables and chairs.

There are tables and separate chairs which can be moved to give wheelchair access.

Drinks and food can be ordered and served at the table on request.

Staff will be able to assist on request.

 

Accommodation - Bedrooms

There are 15 bedrooms on the ground floor, with step free level entry from the car park and side entrance door. On the first floor there are rooms with double beds that are reached by stairs only.

The door to the ground floor bedroom is 800mm wide.

Furniture can be easily removed or rearranged in ground floor room only.

The height of all of the beds from the top of the mattress to the floor is 620mm. Blocks to raise the height of the bed are available on request.

The beds in the two wheelchair accessible rooms are zip-link.

Rooms are bright and evenly lit. Overhead lighting is controlled by a switch. Bedside lamps are also in each room. •All of our bedrooms offer the following: Lighting as above, good colour contrast between the floor, walls and doors, short pile carpet, all bedding is non-feather, widescreen digital television with remote control, subtitles, facilities.

A DeafGuard vibrating pillow pad is available on request.

 

Accommodation - Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (Ensuite or Shared)

All rooms have en-suite bathrooms. The ground floor wheelchair accessible bedrooms en-suite bathroom offers the following:

Door opening to the bathroom is 750mm.

A level entry, step free shower (wet room) in one and a bath in the other

The toilet height is 460mm.

A shower seat is available in the wet room.

The wash basin height is 740mm.

Lever taps on the washbasin and bath.

Grab rails, horizontal and vertical, around the shower in the wet room.

A grab rail by the bath.

Horizontal and vertical grab rails either side of the toilet.

Well lit with overhead lights and a LED light overhead.

Good colour contrast between the doors, floor, walls and towels.

Non-slip laminate flooring.

 

Additional Information

We have a set of evacuation procedures on the back of each accommodation room entrance door – should you require assistance someone will help you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge.

We welcome trained assistance dogs. A water bowl is available and one can be supplied for bedrooms where necessary.

Low energy (LED) lighting is used throughout.

Clear signage is used throughout the pub using large black letters on a clear backgrounds.

Future Plans

We are extending our car park which will increase the number of our Disabled parking bays in the near future.

Our two wheel chair accessible rooms will be having a refurbishment soon and they will both have full wet room bathrooms.
